NEW HAVEN POLICE MAKE TWO ARRESTS AND TAKE TWO GUNS OFF OF THE STREETS
(8/8/2007) NEW HAVEN- New Haven police made two arrests on Wednesday and in the process seized two .45 caliber firearms. The first arrest took place shortly after 5:00 pm at the intersection of Congress and West Streets. Twenty-year-old Christopher Jenkins of New Haven was taken into custody and found carrying a .45 caliber gun and $2,000 in cash. Jenkins was charged with criminal trespassing in the third, operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance within 1500 feet of a school and criminal possession of a firearm
In the Steven Street area, at around 11:30 p.m., two officers stopped occupants of an SUV to find, known offender, 24-year-old Brian Redd driving under a suspended license and in possession of a controlled substance. During the investigation officers located a High Point .45 caliber gun, 11 pieces of crack cocaine and a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle. This investigation is continuing. Redd was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under suspension, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance within 1500 feet of a school.
“Our officers are out there and working aggressively to take guns off of our streets,” said Assistant Chief Herman Badger. “They know where criminal activity is taking place; they’re targeting those hot spots and making arrests and seizures to increase safety in our neighborhoods. Yesterday’s arrests represent the strong work of the department and the types of results we expect to see more of.”
